Essential Gateways to Growth in Community:

Congregation—The weekly worship gathering of the church family. Community Presbyterian Church has three different services on Sundays—traditional (8 am), blended (10:30 am), and contemporary (Gratis at 6:00 pm). In keeping with our rich heritage in the Reformed tradition, we believe worship is not about us, but about our response to the majesty and mercy of God. As we respond to God in “spirit and truth” (John 4.24),  we experience a “taste” of the future revelation of the kingdom of God (Revelation 4-5). We believe that this response can take the form of a variety of cultural styles, none of which is more spiritual than another.

ClassA mid-sized group (12-100) that gathers for Christian education. We believe discernment skills are shaped through a balanced learning process that includes systematic study of the Scriptures, the historic Faith of the church, and the implications of Truth for life at every stage in the human experience (Acts 2.42; Romans 12.2; 2 Timothy 3.15–4.5; Hebrews 5.11–6.3). Community Presbyterian Church provides a comprehensive adult education program for adults of all life-stages (Sunday morning Life-stage Discipleship groups ), in addition to mid-week women’s Bible study programs and pastors Bible study programs.

CoreA small group (3-12) that meets for mutual heart-to-heart accountability. We believe the Christian life cannot thrive without a safe setting for the practice of confession, forgiveness, prayer, and other spiritual disciplines—under the grace and authority of Christ and His Word (Hebrew 10.24-25; James 5.16;                    1 John 1.5-7). Christian marriage and family form a primary “core group” for those who are not single (Ephesians 5.25-30; 6.4). In the church, core groups are most commonly formed out of connections made in mid-sized groups (classes). Life Transformation Groups (LTG’s) are unique core groups: in their size (they are triads), their agenda (mutual responses to accountability questions), their daily discipline (praying for lost people by name and reading through books of Scripture), and their duration (each multiplies into two new LTG’s in about one year).

CollaborativeA kingdom partnership between believers who share their gifts in a common task of ministry in the church family, or between believers who band together to serve Christ “in the world.”  We believe every believer is called to be a co-laborer for the kingdom of God in the church and world  (1 Peter 4.10-11;          1 Corinthians 12.4-3; John 17.15-18; Matthew 5.13-16; 28.18-20). The BOLT class is one of the best doorways to connecting with collaboratives in the church. CPC staff members are also willing to help in this process. Kingdom collaboratives in the world (for example, with other believers in the neighborhood, workplace, community groups, etc) are best initiated by prayer, exploring human needs, and going public as an authentic follower of Christ.
